The UK’s first new greyhound racing track to be built in more than a decade at Dunstall Park in Wolverhampton has announced details of its opening fixture in seven weeks’ time.

Members of the public will be welcome to Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium on Friday, September 19, for the first time with racing starting at 6.15pm.

The evening will cap Arena Racing Company’s successful multi-million-pound investment to transfer its present greyhound racing operation at Perry Barr Stadium in Birmingham to its Wolverhampton site.

Tickets for the first fixture have been slashed to £5 and are on sale now.

Racegoers can also book from a limited pool of free tickets to the venue’s first Category One final on Friday, October 24, when it hosts the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks.

Chris Black, General Manager at Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium, is looking forward to welcoming people to Dunstall Park for a historic night of racing.

“We’re delighted to now have a date fixed for opening night, and are equally excited to welcome racegoers through our doors for greyhound racing for the first time,” said Chris.

“This marks a historic moment for our sport and we invite enthusiasts, casual racegoers and those who are yet to experience the thrill of live racing to share the moment with us.

“A huge credit must go to everyone who has contributed to reaching this stage. Ground was broken on the track less than 100 days’ ago so to be in a position to confirm our first fixture is a great achievement.

“Trials will begin later this month, with further details to be shared shortly.”

Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium’s launch will mark the permanent closure of Perry Barr Stadium.

The Aldridge Road venue has hosted greyhound racing since 1990, with the original Perry Barr Stadium opening in 1929.

The track will host its final fixture on Saturday, August 23, with racing starting at 7pm.

Chris added: “Although our move to Wolverhampton represents an exciting time for greyhound racing, it is tinged with sadness due to Perry Barr’s closure.

“We plan to go out with a bang and will celebrate everything which has made Perry Barr a special venue for millions of visitors since its doors first opened in the 1920s.”

Tickets for Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium’s first fixture on Friday, September 19, are on sale now for £5 and can be purchased via www.dunstallpark-greyhounds.co.uk. All U18s are free.

Further details of Perry Barr’s final fixture on Saturday, August 23, will be shared in the coming days.
